Holly & Jay, Family Photoshoot in Richmond-Upon-Thames, London

Holly and Jay got in touch back in the Spring to ask about a family shoot with their one year old daughter and their loveable puggle Snoop (a Pug, Beagle cross breed).

On the day of their session the wind roared and it poured with rain but we braved the elements determined to capture them all come rain or shine. We headed to Petersham Meadows just outside Richmond Upon Thames, making the most of the breaks in wet weather and giggling over the mud, cow pats and puddles. I love their shoot so much, their devotion to this little girl was incredible to see and their good sense of humour despite natures attempts to dampen things really warmed me to them. As we wrapped things up and headed back to our cars we realised a herd of cows had decided to barricade us into the field. Some quick moves from snoop and we managed to escape in tact.

Here are my favourites from their shoot.

If you'd like to book me for a family session, do get in touch, I'd love to hear from you. Your pets are most welcome to come along too!

A boy in Blossom, just because: Personal work

I'm shooting from the heart at the moment and I really feel and see it in my work. Less second guessing what I should be creating and more... well, creating.

This is my friend's son. She is also a photographer, and only shoots film. I love hanging out with her because she is as crazy about this art form as I am and we can talk the hind legs off a donkey. We spent a day with our kids (her 3 and my 2), at Wisley Gardens last week and were blown away by the amount of blossom there was. This little tree drew us and our cameras to it like moths to a flame. I can't wait to see her film scans; film plus blossom equals LOVE. Here's what I captured that day, with the help of her very willing 7 year old :-)

Getting in the frame: Capturing motherhood as much as childhood

As a photographer I rarely feature in our family photos since I am usually the one behind the camera. It seems the greatest irony to me and is the unfortunate downside to having a professional camera that baffles my husband.

I'm really passionate about the importance of capturing motherhood as much as childhood. My own childhood albums are very special to me, there is magic in seeing my mum at my age now, dressed in an 80's jumpsuit and holding a little me in her arms.

Photos are part of our legacy, they transport us back to a moment in time. By keeping ourselves absent from our family albums we aren't recording one of the most precious and wonderful of seasons in our life - early motherhood.

I wanted to celebrate mothers and the incredible job that they do by running some mother and child sessions, specifically to capture mums with their babies and children. There is a tenderness, an instinctive protectiveness that exists between mothers and their little ones and it's palpable in these pictures. The way a child leans into the warmth of his mother's knook, close to her comforting heartbeat gets me every time I photograph it.

It's these images, of you with your children, that deserve a place on your mantlepiece and in your family albums. You, after all, breathed life into your children, grew them inside of your own body and nurtured them when they were their most vulnerable. Treasure these years and capture them as much as you can, weave your way into your picture books and make sure you're visible in your memories, and theirs in the years to come.

Baby Genevive: Chelsea and Kensington Newborn Baby Photography

It was lovely to spend some time with this adorable American family living in London and photograph them with their newborn baby girl, Genevive.  I love photographing newborns and babies because of the tenderness between parent and baby and because I get to sneak a few tiny baby snuggles in. I arrived at their home in Kensington to find baby Genevive snuggled up in her moses basket. She was calm and content throughout our photoshoot and the resulting pictures I feel really capture the happiness of this new family ;-)

A winter's mother, daughter shoot: Richmond Park baby photographer

Alda and Anaiya braved the winter's cold one Sunday early last month in Richmond Park and let me take their portraits for a mother and daughter family photoshoot. I love these intimate pictures, the tenderness between mother and child and the way you can almost feel the cold seeping through the colours and tones.
