Natural Light Newborn Baby Photographer; Kew, London

I'm catching up on some long overdue blog posts, I had an amazing year in 2017 band got to work with some beautiful families across London and Surrey. It's hard to know where to begin getting them all up on my site but I'm starting up with this lovely newborn session featuring baby Penny and her parents in their flat in Kew.

I love shooting people in their own homes. There is something intimate about capturing a family in their cosy space, seeking out some pretty light and documenting the connection between parents and their little ones. If you'd like to find out more about booking a home session for your brood send me a note or give me a call on 07557883079. I'd love to work with you.

Mother & Baby Photographer in Shepherds Bush, London

I can't believe I'm only just sharing this session now, almost a year after I shot it. A mother and baby mini session with Line and Liam in their amazing home in Shepherd Bush. It was hot, there was a lot of nursing, cuddling and playfulness, and best of all, a baby in nothing but a nappy, which makes me so happy.

I love capturing one on one sessions with my mother and baby shoots. If you're interested in booking a session like this one drop me a note, I have a couple of spaces left for August ripe for the picking.

Family & Baby Photographer in Richmond Park, Richmond-Upon-Thames

The majority of the shoots I do for client's outdoors are set within Richmond Park in the pretty pocket of London, Richmond-Upon-Thames. It's not just because it is local to me that I love to shoot there. It's because there are so many hidden corners to get lost in and ample space to loose the rest of the world for a while and find a quiet spot to relax and just be. Children seem to feel at home when they are surrounded by nature. Simplicity, it seems, is both calming and familiar to little ones, and with acres to explore within the park itself and the fact it is left wild in so many places rather than manicured like many other London Parks, there is always something to see, animals to spot and open space to explore.

This peaceful family photoshoot with baby Ernest and his parents was one very bright and hot morning in August. I was worried it would be too hot for a baby and too bright for me to get really great shots but we found a beautiful shady tree to curl up under, and the rest of the magic this family conjured up themselves.

My favourite kinds of photoshoots are the ones where people let themselves forget I am there for most of it and allow me to be an observer of their time together. That is always when I find myself catching the purest of emotions, the most intense chemistry and the true spirit of a family.

If you'd like to me to capture you and your baby or family, either in Richmond Park or elsewhere in London or Surrey, please get in touch. I would love to hear from you.

Maya and Chloe one year on in Kew Gardens, Kew

I photographed Lola during her pregnancy with her twin girls and then again, I captured them as a family of four just after the babies arrived.  So when she contacted me to book in a 1 year old session I was over the moon. I love seeing my families again and again, tracking their growth and blossoming.

The twins were so much bigger than the teeny tiny newborns I photographed 12 months ago. Now crawling and exploring their environments, making their mark on the world around them and taking it all in. Here they are amongst the bluebells and blossom one sunny morning in Kew Gardens this springtime...

Baby Sara: a family photoshoot at home in Richmond-Upon-Thames

I'm catching up with some long overdue blog posts and this little shoot from last year with baby Sara at her home in Richmond-upon-Thames always makes me smile. Those baby leg rolls and the look of utter love and devotion on her parent's faces - just priceless.

I love shooting in client's homes across West London and beyond. There is something intimate and understated about capturing a family in their natural environment. I know I say it time and time again but it is a great privilege to do what I do and meet so many amazing families through my work. If you'd like to find out more about booking a home session for your brood send me a note. I'd love to work with you.

Tips for how to photograph your children

As a baby and family photographer I get a lot of people asking me for tips on how to photograph children. For me, photographing kids is about capturing their personality, their cheekiness, their playfulness and their spirit. My shoots aren't directed or choreographed in some stark white studio, quite the opposite in fact. I specialise in capturing real moments as they happen, catching the genuine magic that children make as they go about their day.

Because little ones have a tendency to be on the move a lot of the time, the best way to photograph them if you don't know how to control your camera's settings manually, is to catch them when they're settled into activity. Set up some of you child's toys or books in a nice airy space in your home where you have access to lots of natural light. Think about the toys you choose when creating this activity, the ones that will photograph well are the ones to pick. Things like well made wooden toys or pretty illustrated books rather than the ugly illuminous dinosaur with flashing lights, (and we all have them!) Before inviting them into the space to play, try to clear any unnecessary clutter out of the room - anything that could be an eye sore in the picture and draw attention unnecessarily away from your child, (think piles of laundry or unsightly toys that may not photograph so well).

Once the room is ready, take a couple of pictures of the toys you've set up in the space to check the light and make sure there isn't anything unsightly in view. Then invite your child in, and encourage them to play. Let them get settled and into their play for a while before you get your camera out, you want them to be unaware of you taking photographs and really content in their natural play. When you think they're occupied, start to take their picture. be discreet, you don't need to ask them to look at your or tell them to smile, in fact by doing that you'll interrupt their play and they may get frustrated. Instead just photograph them as they are, just doing what they do. Once you feel you've got some shots of them playing away you could start to interact with them a little. Ask them what they are looking at or ask them to show you where their nose is or if you have a frog on your head. These simple interactions will help to get them to look your way so you can catch them looking to camera as well as engrossed in their toys.

During my photoshoots I will often spend a long time observing children at natural play before I take their photograph. It helps me to understand how they interact with the world around them and it helps them to feel comfortable and confident in my presence. I prefer children not to be too aware I'm actually photographing them when I work, this way I am able to catch them uninhibited and avoid the fake smiles and 'say cheese' situations that never end up with a good photograph.

The best way to photograph your children and capture their own unique personalities is to take your time, give them space to let them be free, observe while they play and quietly document in the background. It is often the subtle documentary images you create that will be the ones that move you the most when you look back through your family photo albums. Seeing your children at play will transport you back to what life was like, and remind you how magical a time childhood really is.

Baby Genevive: Chelsea and Kensington Newborn Baby Photography

It was lovely to spend some time with this adorable American family living in London and photograph them with their newborn baby girl, Genevive.  I love photographing newborns and babies because of the tenderness between parent and baby and because I get to sneak a few tiny baby snuggles in. I arrived at their home in Kensington to find baby Genevive snuggled up in her moses basket. She was calm and content throughout our photoshoot and the resulting pictures I feel really capture the happiness of this new family ;-)

My favourites of you { 2 0 1 5 } Baby and Family photography in and across London

2015 went in the blink of an eye. I got to meet and photograph so many wonderful families and babies, a magical winter wedding party, capture blossoming bumps and new mamas and papas, cuddle lots and lots of sweet babies and shoot the most beautiful midsummer wedding.

I am so grateful to all of you who chose me to preserve some of your memories last year and I'm looking forward to seeing what magic we can capture together in 2016.

It was almost impossible to choose my favourites from last year but here are a handful, every single one of these images brings a smile to my face.

Thank you, really, thank you! xo

Giggles galore at this family photography shoot in Wandsworth, West London

It was so lovely to be invited back to this sweet Wandworth based family after my newborn photoshoot with baby Elodie last year. This time I was there to capture the whole family as they went about their busy Saturday morning. There was so much energy at this shoot and of course the odd but of mischief thrown in for good measure.
